Sustainable Activities and Achievements
BSI BS8901 Compliance
Be it a music festival or a sporting event for thousands there is more and more demand on events to be environmentally friendly, ethically sound and of benefit to the economy.
- Reducing exhibition waste: 187 tonnes to 45.47 tonnes in two years
- Measuring and managing contractor waste efficiently through a supportive waste management team
- Providing education to operational suppliers and attendees
- Producing marketing collateral and promotional pens using recycled material/sustainable sources
- Providing and encouraging the use of public transport to and from the venue, airport and EIBTM hotels
- Partnering with sustainability consultant Sustainable Events Ltd
Dedicated Education
EIBTM continued to integrate sustainability into its education programme. The Green Room was a whole day of CSR (corporate social responsibility) seminars dedicated to addressing the key sustainable issues and best practice within the industry. Sessions included information on BS8901 to waste management with speakers from leading organisations.
500 EIBTM Trees in Haiti
WCAFI (World Clean Air Forest Initiative) is focused on cleaning the air, fighting climate change, deforestation and pollution. They also help local people in developing countries build sustainable livelihoods by making promotional products and services. Using their Clean Air Tree Kit, made from 100% biodegradable potato waste, WCAFI planted 658 trees in developing countries as a result of EIBTM 2010 donations.
The Sustainability Stand Award
EIBTM 2010 welcomed Charlie Banks from Sustainable Events Ltd to judge the very first Sustainability Stand Award. As part of the Best Stand Awards Programme this new award was open to those that participated in EIBTM’s 20 Sustainable Actions initiative. Well done to the winners, San Marino!
