1. A brief overview / description of what your product or service is.
A pokenTAG is an electronic sticker that can store digital documents, multimedia files, coupons, and virtually any type of digital data. It's a cutting-edge technology that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) to enable people to collect rich media in the real world. By simply touching pokenTAGs with an NFC-enabled smartphone, or Poken device*, users can view the collected information on our website at POKEN.COM.
Each pokenTAG is pre-linked to a virtual object hosted on POKEN.COM where Exhibitors can administer the rich content associated with the tag. By providing an easy means for giving information -- and gathering information about the people who touched the pokenTAG -- it offers a unique “no wires” solution for lead management benefitting both attendees and exhibitors.
* The pokenSPARK and pokenPULSE are trendy NFC devices that serve as a digital “social” business card. They enable users to instantly gather information with a simple “touch”
2. How your product / service will meet customer's requirements, fulfil a need or solve a problem
Typical lead management solutions using barcodes and scanners primarily benefit exhibitors, not attendees. By using the Poken “solution”, you can bring tremendous value to the attendee as well. With pokenTAGs in the booth, or individual products, the attendee can decide what is interesting to them by touching their Poken or Mobile phone to a specific pokenTAG.
Many events are going “green”. Rather than attendees carrying around bags full of paper brochures, event organizers can simply use pokenTAGs to give attendees the information they want to explore in the form of an intuitive digital “brochure”. This is a cost-saving, “green” and innovative way for exhibitors to distribute information and to get high quality leads based on people's real interests.
By using the tools on the POKEN.COM website exhibitors can collect statistical information on their usage, making them ideal for use in campaigns that can benefit from precise customer and usage metrics.
3. What is unique or innovative about your product?
The pokenTAG offers a proprietary way to generate high quality leads based on people's real interests. There are other “tag” solutions on the market, but none as easy to deploy, as cost-effective to use, and that provide powerful information about what products an attendee is most interested in based on their specific actions.
The pokenTAG utilizes an innovative chip design with an extremely low-power battery to power an “active” NFC device. Most “tags” require a reader to obtain information from the tag (barcodes, QR codes, and “passive” NFC tags). A pokenTAG is actually a reader itself, thereby providing the capacity to exchange information bi-directionally with other lightweight readers such as a Poken.
With pokenTAGs you can now “tag” just about anything at the event, and using Poken’s “touch” devices (ie a Poken or Mobile app) place the power to collect directly into the hands of each attendee. This solution is transformative.
4. What impact does your product have, or aim to have, on meeting professionals and the meetings/events industry?
pokenTAG revolutionizes the way people engage with digital information in the real world. It enhances the participants experience at events by providing an innovative alternative to carrying a bag full of leaflets. A pokenTAG can transform any object into a rich source of information and it is starting a green revolution at corporate events by eliminating paper waste.
The dynamic nature of the content collected through a pokenTAG means that if a participant collects a digital brochure at an event, and a newer version of the brochure becomes available, this new version can be “pushed” to the user.
Finally, when someone uses their Poken or smartphone to collect a digital brochure about a product at a booth, our post-event tracking and analytics tools will show who they were and how many times people engaged with these materials. Event organizers can, therefore, make relevant business proposals to people who actively showed an interest in learning more about a certain product or service.
5. Please provide an outline of the product/service development so far, and how successful this has been:
The pokenTAG utilizes a proprietary chip design that was built in cooperation with the Swiss government. The chip is an extremely low-power design that will run in a self-contained fashion for up to 2 years, stores over 4000 interactions before offloading, and powers an LED to indicate when an exchange has taken place. The chip design was conceived with the goal of ultimately fitting into a very small form factor such as a Credit Card.
Early versions of the pokenTAG have been deployed for corporate customers such as BMW, Coca-Cola, ABB and the Youth Olympic Games. The pokenTAG was so successful at the ABB Automation & Power World event in Orlando that this 4000 person tradeshow will no longer utilize their previous barcode and scanner solution for lead management. Everyone gets a Poken and each exhibit now has a pokenTAG on a custom placard.
pokenTAGs in the final electronic “sticker” design will be available in mass production from early October 2011.
6. Please give an indication of pricing for using the technology product/service. Be specific as possible(e.g the pricing for an example event with xxx attendees.)
A single pokenTAG with a standard design will retail for $9.95. Custom branded designs with the customer’s logo, etc, will cost an additional $2. In most cases, the pokenTAG will be placed on a Placard or Poster. These will range in price, but a typical Placard with a stand runs for $20.
Each pokenTAG is associated with a digital Object on the Poken platform. The Object contains name, description, type, digital media, files, photos and more. Our pricing model assumes that there will be two types of scnarios:
1) 1-way distribution of materials without data collection ($10 setup fee)
2) 2-way lead generation that includes post-event data collection ($50 setup fee)
There are separate fees for the Pokens, and pokenEVENT services. Discounts are provided to Resellers and based on Volume. A typical event for 1000 attendees and 100 booths might yield a 30% discount, and total costs of approximately $15-20K based on any customization services selected.
7. What research have you carried out to establish that there is a need for your product or service?
Poken has been in the “Events” business (MICE industry) for approximately 2 years, and has served many fortune 500 clients: IBM, Adobe, BMW, Coca-cola, Deloitte, etc. In addition we have been working on a low-power NFC chip design with the Swiss government for the last two years.
For event participants: It was obvious that far too much paper is wasted in the distribution of leaflets at events. All participants are given a tremendous number of handouts, and most of it ends up being thrown away. A waste of money, time and effort.
For the event organizers: There are various tactics a business can employ as lead generation. However, many of these tactics generate inquiries that have not been pre-qualified, which can cost them a lot of time and resources. They want to make sure their sales team will spend their time with leads that fit the ideal customer profile and that have a genuine interest in their specific products
8. What do you see as being the next stages in the product/service development?
Further pokenTAG development will focus on three areas: administration tools, “real-time” capabilities, and future form factors.
We plan to make administering pokenTAGs even easier by building admin capabilities into our mobile apps. For example, setting up Tags, offloading Tags, or performing Lead Management using a “smart” solution on a Phone/Tablet device with NFC capabilities.
To provide “real-time” data collection capabilities we are equipping our Mobile application with the same Tag functionality so they can be used as a “tag”, or Tag Station. Future features include turning the pokenTAG itself into a neural-network such that each Tag could talk to one another.
Finally, the pokenTAG chip technology was designed with other form factors in mind. For example, a pokenBADGE or pokenCARD format would be extremely unique as the badge or card could actually read and store data without a “wired” reader in the mix.
